Certificate in Computer Science
The certificate in Computer Science provides a solid foundation in computer concepts, programming, theory and hardware so that the student can utilize these skills alongside another major in the marketplace. It is intended for students who wish an in-depth study of Computer Science while pursuing a different major or who are not matriculated at the college (enrolled in a degree program.)

Students completing the certificate would be more employable than those who complete the same major but without the computer background. The Computer Science certificate program could also be used as a stand-alone course of study for individuals who wish to enhance their employment opportunities or gain skills and knowledge in Computer Science for professional advancement.

  • CSC 110 (3 hrs.)
  • CSC 111 (4 hrs.)
  • CSC 212 (4 hrs.)
  • CSC 213 (4 hrs.)
  • CSC 253 (3 hrs.)
  • CSC 281 (3 hrs.)
  • CSC elective (4 hrs.)
  • CSC elective (4 hrs.)

Note that the electives, one of which must be a 300 or 400 level class, are chosen in consultation with an advisor.

Many times a student is not quite sure what she wants to major when she gets to college, so she makes a choice that turns out later to be less than satisfactory. If this student starts out as a Computer Science major, but then switches to a different major, she can continue on and finish the certificate, since all of the courses in the first two years are the same for both the certificate and the major.
